604 Records is the Canadian Rock label co-founded by Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger. And this album features, primarily, some solid accessible Pop and Rock music.
One of Jessie Farrell's two numbers, "Mrs. Claus", was a digital single last year, however the rest of this set appears to be newly recorded. You may recall Suzie McNeil from the 2005 reality show "Rock Star: INXS". I personally thought she AND Marty Casey both smoked the winner, but the group chose JD Fortune in the end. Suzie released her debut album in 2007 and, later that year, a nice Christmas single, "It's Christmas Time". "For Christmas Time" is something new from her, though. Daniel Wesley gives us a bit of feel good Indie Folk/Pop. Faber Drive give us a hip-hop infused modern rock mashup of all the old Christmas carols. "Frostbite Kisses" from Jackalope is instantly appealing. Josh Ramsay, the lead singer for the group Marianas Trench, offers up an acoustic, downtempo and pleading rendition of the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" tune we associate mostly with Darlene Love; makes for quite a contrast. Frederick's "Hello December Sun" closes the album a bit too earnestly for my taste--the "December Sun" he's referring to is Jesus--but your mileage may vary. All in all, a worthy addition to the holidays.
Amazon appears to be offering a hard copy of this, though as a $50 import. Given that price tag, iTunes may be the way to go on "A 604 Records Christmas".
